Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiled initiatives on Sunday that will improve the lives of thousands of people living in slum settlements in northwest Delhi, include Haiderpur, Ekta Camp, and Pitampura’s Nehru Camp. “No slum will be destroyed unless its inhabitants are given decent dwellings. We won’t allow anyone to sow doubt and anxiety.
In discussions with residents of JJ clusters in Adarsh Nagar and Model Town on Sunday, AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj said that the locals were afraid and not aware of when the bulldozers would arrive at their homes.
“We talked fully about how the recently elected BJP administration in Delhi is destroying the jhuggis of thousands of working-class and impoverished people, leaving them without a place to live. In the words of Bhardwaj, the way the BJP-led Delhi government is attacking Jhuggi colonies one after another suggests that it does not want working-class and impoverished people to live in Delhi.
He went on to say that on June 29, the AAP will demonstrate at Jantar Mantar against the demolitions of Delhi’s JJ clusters and urge the federal government to address the matter appropriately.
The majority of anti-encroachment activities, according to Gupta, are court-directed and intended to remove unlawful barriers that impede traffic or public movement. She declared that all of Delhi’s slums would undergo gradual reconstruction.
It is our duty to make sure they have access to the same advantages as the rest of the city’s residents. Waterlogging and unsanitary situations will be addressed with the installation of suitable drainage systems and sewer lines. Road building and repairs, a steady supply of potable water, and sufficient street lighting would all be given top priority, Gupta stated.
Community restrooms and toilets will be built in strategic public sites, with a focus on their routine upkeep, she continued, in order to advance public health and sanitation. To guarantee prompt and effective garbage disposal, a strong solid waste management system will also be put in place, and vehicles will be sent out.
On Sunday, Gupta also kicked off a number of civic projects, such as building Jan Suvidha Kendras, enhancing roads and drainage systems, and developing kid-safe recreational areas. Additionally, Gupta emphasized the importance of sanitation facilities by visiting a projected 20-seat facility close to the JJ Cluster’s U and V blocks and announcing a 24-seat public convenience center at Nehru Camp, Haiderpur.
“Women, children, and senior citizens who have long suffered from a lack of access to safe toilets are going to profit from the Jan Suvidha Kendra at Nehru Camp,” Gupta stated. She went on to say that these facilities are essential for public health and dignity in addition to convenience. “This is an important advancement in achieving our goal of ‘Swachh Delhi, Swasth Delhi,’” she declared.
Gupta also officially opened the CC pavement project in Ekta Camp, Pitampura, accompanied by local MLAs and representatives from the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).
People have been traversing muddy, uneven pathways for far too long. These new pavements aim to restore safety and dignity, not just build new roadways, Gupta stated.
On-site inspections of park upkeep, road resurfacing, and pipeline installation were all part of the CM’s inspection. She pledged to build or renovate sanitized, well-lit parks with swings and play spaces in these crowded areas.
